This is an airborne laser scan of the main span of the Van Brienenoord Bridge in Rotterdam: two parallel steel arches spanning 289 m between the river piers, with traffic still on the deck. Drawn over it is the model Landex built from the scan. The traffic was left out on purpose.
Arch ribs, wind bracing, portals, deck slabs, edge girders, piers, footings, barriers, gantries and lighting, each measured, placed and classified. Every element also records how much of it the scanner actually saw. From the air nothing under the deck or below the water is visible, and the model says so rather than guessing. The hanger cables were not captured, so they appear on the side elevation drawing only. Hover or tap an element to read it.
